Base Ball Matters

June 9, 1888

The manager of the Shamokins is after Nusz, of the home team. Nusz sent him word last night that he would sign for $85 a month and expenses.

The Academy Base Ball Club left this morning for Woodsboro to cross bats with the team of that place. Railing and Volluse were the battery for the Academy team.

Mr. C. D. Doll has written to Dan Errick, the daisy first baseman, to meet him in Baltimore on Monday next on the arrival of the home team in that city in reference to signing with the Frederick team. An effort will be made to get the Past time club, of that city, here for the Fourth of July games at Association Park.

The game of base ball which was to have been okayed in Lierty yesterday, between a local team of that place and the Unionville club, did not come off owing to the Liberty club backing down. The reason assigned was that on the 2d day of this month the Liberty club visited Unionville, played a game and were defeated by a score 10 to 1.

Mr. Clifford Doll will go to Baltimore on Monday morning next to manage the home team in the two games with the Stowman’s at Stowman’s Park in Baltimore on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. The team will return to this city on Wednesday morning next accompanied by the Mutuals, who play in the afternoon at the Park. Mr. W. E. Nusz, who has recently been a member of the Albany, N.Y. club and now of the home team, has received an offer from the Shamokin, Pa., management to sign with that club but he has refused the offer In order to keep Noez here an inducement had to be offered by Mr. C. D. Doll. A generous public should support Mr. Doll financially, as he is at quite an expense in securing first class players in order to be able to give the patrons of this city an opportunity to witness good exhibitions of base ball at the Park this season Shoemaker, who played with the Olympic lcb of Georgetown in this city this week, has signed with our club here. He will join the team in Baltimore on Monday morning.
