Fatal Duel in a Sheep Camp

One man dead and another not expected to Recover.

Pendleton, Oct 9., – News has just reached here that a shooting scrape occurred. Thursday in the mountains forty miles from here, between Enoch Bowley, a sheep herder, and Ed and Len Campbell, sheep owners. The band of sheep which Bowley was herding mixed with the Campbel’s sheep, and in separating them a dispute arose. Bowley called the Campbells liars, and Len Campbell said: “You are sother.” At this Bowley became enraged, drew his pistol and emptied it into the Campbells. Two bullets struck Len Campbell but Ed escaped unhurt. Ed Campbell drew his revolver and fired one shot jsut as Bowley retired in the bush. It took effect. Len Campbel has died from his injuries and Bowley is not expected to live. campbell leaves a wife. Bowley is unmarried. The Campbells are of good reputation while little is known of Bowley.
