On With the Dance
April 12, 1889Joy was unconfined at the Hotel Bradley Last Night- A Gay Time.
The Hotel Bradley was the scene last night of one of the gayest social events in the history of Xenia. For several weeks the young men have been scheming and working on what culminated last night in an outpouring of Xenia’s youth and beauty to that magnificent hotel, where the pleasures of the dance transported them from the world of cares, for the time being.
The large dining room was cleared of the tables, and the chairs arranged along the side of the room, making it an admirable ball-room. By nine o’clock the most of them had arrived and in a short time the youth and beauty assembled were floating in the bewitching waltz to the enchanting strains of the Metropolitan Orchestra, of Dayton. About thirty couple were present all appearing in evening dress. The ladies looked their best and some of the costumes were decidedly elaborate and elegant.
At the hour of midnight all adjourned to the banquet room, where a beautiful sight presented itself. Long tables were glittering with silver and glass and resplendent with snow white linen. Here an elegant course spread was served, which was surely enjoyed by all and did great credit to the employees of the hotel. After the feast dancing was indulged in until a late hour, when all dispersed to the sweet strains of “Home Sweet Home.”
Among those present from out of town were W.D. Riddle, of London; W.L. Morris, of Urbana; John M. Shriver, of Dayton; J.F. Hawley, of Richmond; Billy Baily of Cincinnati; Mr. Geo McElwain and Miss MArie Hopkins, of Bellbrook; Miss Nancy Cheney, of South Charleston.
